Posting Your Pet Portrait on Instagram (What Actually Gets Engagement)

Posting Your Pet Portrait on Instagram (What Actually Gets Engagement)

An oil pet portrait is the kind of content that stops people mid-scroll. But there's a difference between posting it and posting it well. We've seen thousands of our portraits shared online, and some formats consistently outperform others.

The Side-by-Side Carousel

First slide: the original photo. Second slide: the oil portrait. This format works because the transformation is dramatic and people swipe instinctively when they see a "before." Third slide, optional: the print on your wall. That's the one that makes people actually order one.

The Reveal Reel

Film yourself or the recipient seeing the portrait for the first time. Genuine reactions do well on Reels. Don't script it.

Captions That Work

Avoid generic captions. The ones that get comments are specific:

  • "She has no idea she's hanging above the fireplace in full coronation regalia"
  • "The look on my mom's face when she unwrapped this"
  • "He already acts like royalty. We just made it official"
  • Personal and specific beats clever and polished.

    Hashtags (Keep It Simple)

    Five to ten relevant ones:

  • #PetPortrait #DogPortrait or #CatPortrait
  • Your breed hashtag (#GoldenRetriever, #MaineCoon, etc.)
  • #PetArt #ClassicalPet
  • #DogsOfInstagram or #CatsOfInstagram
  • Tag Us

Tag @getnobly. We reshare our favorites.
